After specializing in ultralight knives for ounce-counting backcountry hunters, we wanted to create a blade with even more versatility. And now in MAGNACUT stainless steel, our most versatile hunting knife is more wear and corrosion-resistant than ever.
As a Lincoln, Montana native, our founder and Master Bladesmith Josh Smith grew up hunting and fishing in this remarkable region. The Stonewall Skinner fittingly takes its name from one of the area’s standout landmarks the Stonewall Mountain, bordering the Scapegoat Wilderness to the north.

Every knife's value depends upon the task that is required to perform. The Stonewall Skinner would not be my knife in the woods slashing vines, limbs, and saplings in the ground. However, it performs very nicely slicing, as it is designed to do. The blade's belly, steel, and thinness accomplish this admirably. I have not skinned any animals, but I have used this knife in the kitchen cutting, slicing, and even some dicing.
I have many knives, and this one sharpened quicker than any non-kitchen knife that I have ever encountered. Then blade came sharp, but I always add my edge. I went up to 8000 grit using ceramic whetstones and finished with the 8000 grit King Gold Whetstone.
Slicing a tomato is a good indicator for the degree of sharpness, and the Stonewall Skinner does this well. I think this would be excellent for the task of skinning. The steel rates very well on edge retention, good on corrosion, and fair on toughness. (No steel does everything perfectly). Hence, the magnacut is a good choice for this skinner.
The knife is a good length and design for self defense also. I am impressed with this knife.

The weight, feel, and sharpness of the knife are all great but the polished metal still shows grind marks on the back of the blade. It won’t affect how the knife works but I expected better for the price. It probably wouldn’t have showed on a coated blade. I thought very long about buying the skinner as the design and size would be ideal but the lack of attention to detail on this one has me hesitant.
