After specializing in ultralight knives for ounce-counting backcountry hunters, we wanted to create a blade with even more versatility. Designed to take on any task a hunter may face, the Stonewall Skinner is truly a do-it-all hunting knife. Perfectly curved for skinning, sharp enough for cutting, and stout enough for chopping, the Stonewall blade is as all-purpose as it gets. And now in Stonewashed MAGNACUT stainless steel, our most versatile hunting knife is more wear and corrosion-resistant than ever.
As a Lincoln, Montana native, our founder and Master Bladesmith Josh Smith grew up hunting and fishing in this remarkable region. The Stonewall Skinner fittingly takes its name from one of the area’s standout landmarks the Stonewall Mountain, bordering the Scapegoat Wilderness to the north.

I love the feel of the knife and the blade is really sharp. I thought I could dry it off with the paper towel and it ended up slicing my finger. Can’t wait to use it on some big game! It’s my first MKC knife and I just ordered the Blackfoot 2.0 and about to order a boning knife!

I recently purchased three Montana Knife Company knives in close succession: the Stonewall Skinner, followed by the Whitetail, and currently have the Beartooth en route. The Stonewall Skinner was my first exposure to MKC, and my initial impression was excellent. The knife felt well-balanced, fit my hand naturally, and arrived extremely sharp—exactly what I was looking for in a premium, USA-made hunting knife.
I chose MKC after seeing respected outdoorsmen such as Clay Hayes, Remi Warren, and Steven Rinella publicly advocate for and use the brand. The combination of strong endorsements, domestic manufacturing, and the company’s generational guarantee made the higher price point feel justified.
I used the Stonewall Skinner for normal field work only—gutting, skinning, and deboning two whitetail deer. At no point was the knife abused, pried, or used in a manner outside its intended purpose. These are the same tasks I have routinely performed for years with other knives (including Gerber and Benchmade) without issue.
After cleaning the knife, however, I noticed several small nicks along the edge. While none were catastrophic, they were significant enough to be disappointing given the limited use and the premium cost of the knife. I want to be clear that I have no doubt MKC would have stood behind their product and addressed the issue had I sent it in. I ultimately chose to reprofile the edge myself, which resolved the damage, though it required a fair amount of time and…
